The Uei SSM1 is used to measure superheat and subcooling by direct connections for temperature and pressure. The SSM1 is programmed with the most common four refrigerants, with data from the NIST-Pro refrigeration database for temperature-pressure values. Refrigerant superheat refers to the rise in temperature of vapour after the refrigerant has completely changed from a liquid to a gas. The dew point (temperature at measured pressure where all of the liquid evaporates) is determined by properties of the refrigerant and measuring the pressure. When comparing this to the measured pipe temperature of the return line will determine superheat. The SSM1 will calculate this value directly and update in real time. Use superheat on fixed orifice or capillary systems. Refrigerant subcooling refers to the drop in temperature of liquid refrigerant after it has completely changed from a gas to a liquid. The boiling point (temperature at measured pressure where the liquid stops boiling and starts to further cool) is determined by properties of the refrigerant and measuring pressure. When comparing this to the measured pipe temperature at the exit of the condenser determines subcooling. The SSM1 will calculate this value directly, and update in real time. Use Subcooling on TXV systems, as they are designed to maintain a constant superheat.

UEi TEST INSTRUMENTS™ Super Heat/Sub Cool Meter, 0.5% FS Accuracy, -40 to 400 deg F Measuring, 0 to 500 psi, -40 to 400 deg F, 32 to 122 deg F

  • Calculates - superheat for low side, subcool for high side (TXV systems)
  • Refrigerants included for calculations - R-22, R-134A, R-404A, R-410A
  • Measuring superheat and subcool determines if a system is operating properly, set up and charge air conditioning systems, diagnose system failures or refrigerant losses
